For 40 years, San Lorenzo Valley neighbors have rolled up their sleeves to keep litter out of our roadsides, creeks, and river—and ultimately, Monterey Bay.

The River & Road Clean Up began in 1986, when watershed analyst Al Haynes saw increasing amounts of roadside litter flowing into local waterways. He enlisted the help of Nancy Macy and the Valley Women's Club, beginning a community tradition that has now spanned generations.

Over the years, an average of about 120 volunteers a year have removed two to five tons of trash and recyclables. Children who once came with their parents have grown up and now return with their own children and students.

This year, we celebrate 40 years—and we'd love you to be part of it.
