DESCRIPTION:For 40 years\, San Lorenzo Valley neighbors have rolled up thei
 r sleeves to keep litter out of our roadsides\, creeks\, and river—and u
 ltimately\, Monterey Bay.\n\nThe River & Road Clean Up began in 1986\, whe
 n watershed analyst Al Haynes saw increasing amounts of roadside litter fl
 owing into local waterways. He enlisted the help of Nancy Macy and the Val
 ley Women's Club\, beginning a community tradition that has now spanned ge
 nerations.\n\nOver the years\, an average of about 120 volunteers a year h
 ave removed two to five tons of trash and recyclables. Children who once c
 ame with their parents have grown up and now return with their own childre
 n and students.\n\nThis year\, we celebrate 40 years—and we'd love you t
