How quickly could you reach safety if a wildfire threatened Santa Cruz?

Find out at Race the Flame on Saturday, Oct. 17, a community run/walk and emergency preparedness event hosted by the City of Santa Cruz and UC Santa Cruz. Participants will follow a route from UCSC's East Field down Coolidge Drive while learning more about wildfire risk and emergency preparedness along the way.

The event begins at 8 a.m. and includes options for runners and walkers. At the finish line, an emergency preparedness fair will bring together community organizations and resources focused on wildfire readiness, household preparedness and building community resilience.

Registration is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 12 and younger. Net proceeds benefit Friends of Parks & Recreation Santa Cruz. Participants who register by Sept. 30 have the best chance of receiving their preferred race shirt size.
