The San Vicente – Waddell Coastal Resilience project is a climate change adaptation effort addressing risks to Highway 1 and the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line on Santa Cruz County's north coast. These transportation facilities cross San Vicente Creek at Davenport and Waddell Creek at the coastal entrance to Big Basin Redwoods State Park and are currently vulnerable to the impacts of extreme storms and other coastal hazards, like waves, erosion and sea level rise. The project seeks to envision ways to make these transportation facilities more resilient to coastal hazards, while also restoring or improving ecological function of the nearby creek, estuary, and beach environments.
