From Justin Cummings: April is National Child Abuse Prevention month and was established in 1983 by Presidential Proclamation. The California State Legislature established an annual Children's Memorial Day in April 1997, formally declaring the fourth Friday in April as a statewide observance each year to honor the memory of children whose lives were lost during the prior year in California due to violence. To round out the month of activities around this topic, the County will raise the Children's Memorial Flag for the first time in history, and I hope you can join me as we raise the flag together.
