Founded in 1949 to promote earth sciences
gemology
and lapidary arts scholarship and education. Since 1952 has hosted big gem and mineral show at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
third weekend in April. Meets 2nd wed of each month. Meetings include sharing knowledge and an interesting talk or program. All volunteer. Members give lectures and lead field trips. Volunteers operate a lapidary shop at Market St. Senior Center and teach lapidary arts. Member California and American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. Awards $00 Cabrillo and $1000 UCSC Earth Science scholarships on an annual or bi-annual basis
depending on fundraising
