Description: Return of the Frogs is a celebration of the Jessie Street Marsh and its inhabitants. Presented by DSA Santa Cruz Ecosocialist Working Group Santa Cruz and friends, community members are invited to participate in a multi-media self guided tour through the marsh where they will learn about land use, abolition ecology, frogs, trees and agit-propagation among other things! 95% of California's coastal wetlands have been destroyed. Jessie Street Marsh was once a tidally connected inlet of the San Lorenzo, but has been modified, and cut off from tidal flow. Nevertheless, the marsh still provides critical wintering habitat for migratory birds, and of course, breeding habitats for frogs and other amphibians. There will be interactive and hands-on stations as well as visual art and performative play. In gathering to honor the Return of the Frogs, we hope to engage the community through stewardship and activism to protect, preserve and restore this unique salt water marsh.
