Description:
Conversation on The Influence of Wealthy Donors and Corporate Money in US Politics.

Is it a problem that large corporations and the super rich have outsize influence on our political system? Money has always influenced politics, and some believe that the voice of everyone in America (including the wealthy) should not be restricted in a free marketplace. Some note that candidates who can raise the largest amounts of money are able to hire professionals to "spin their message". They buy large chunks of advertising, and, once elected, are beholden to large donors. This may distort their ability to fairly represent their constituents. Yet the Supreme Court has ruled in the case of Citizens United that these types of donations are protected under the Constitution.

This Conversation for Change will look at the many complex ways that access to money might increase one's influence in our political realm.
