The City of Santa Cruz is looking for volunteers to plant 30 canopy oak trees at De Laveaga Park on Wednesday October 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be 15 cork oaks and 15 coast live oaks. Below is the notice from the city forester, Leslie Keedy. Please let me know if you are interested.
The first fall planting of the required 150 trees is of 30 canopy oak trees - 15 cork oak & 15 coast live oak. I will do a planting demo at 10am. Holes will be predug & I will have tools for up to 20 volunteers. Volunteers will need close toe shoes, water & gloves. We will meet at Delaveaga Golf Course on upper Park Road near the end of the golf course at the pond and the spur road that goes to the 911 Center & Santa Cruz Shakespeare venue (see map below). There are signs to follow that say Shakespeare & also 911 center along the way. There is no exact address so its easiest to follow the Shakespeare signs & we will all be on that corner.
Prior to volunteering all volunteer groups will need to reach out & preregister with Laurel (Laurel Keeffe: email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org) so they are covered by City insurance. Anyone under 18 will need parent permission slip, Laurel can guide us through that process & can answer questions. I will have sign in sheets for all volunteers at the planting.
We need to cap the project at about 20 people so as you all get a feeling for how many participants you all might have lets email & discuss so not too many or few show up. Thanks for your tree planting spirit! LKeedy
