REYNA GRANDE LAUNCHES NEW BOOK, A DREAM CALLED HOME, IN SANTA CRUZ
Join us in welcoming UC Santa Cruz alumna, Reyna Grande, back to Santa Cruz. Grande will discuss her new memoir, A Dream Called Home, in conversation with Micah Perks, UC Santa Cruz Literature Professor.
THI is proud to partner with Bookshop Santa Cruz, the Research Center for the Americas, the UCSC First Generation Initiative, and Kresge College to host Grande. Her visit, and the release of her new memoir, comes after her powerful op-ed this summer, published in the New York Times, titled "The Impossible Choice My Father Had to Make." In this piece and her other published work, Grande gives voice to the experience of undocumented immigrants and the struggles parents and children face in seeking a life in the United States.
A DREAM CALLED HOME is Grande's lyrical and moving follow-up to The Distance Between Us. This memoir tells the story of her pursuit to become the first in her family to earn a college degree at UC Santa Cruz and become an award-winning and bestselling author. Grande shares an inspiring, personal account of what it means to find a home and place of belonging in America as a undocumented, first-generation Latina.
Books will be available at Bookshop Santa Cruz or at the event. Free books will be given out to the first 50 UCSC students to attend (student ID required at the door).
